The Hargreaves Narrowboat Trust has launched it’s brand new, wheelchair accessible and completely electric powered trip boat.
The Trust was able to commission the new narrowboat named ‘Hargreaves II’ thanks to various grant giving trusts and The National Lottery Community Fund.
Our fully accessible narrowboat has wheelchair access via a removable ramp up onto the stern deck. Passengers then descend into the cabin via either an electro-hydraulic scissor lift or steps into the main cabin. Once in the cabin the single level floor gives easy access throughout the entire narrowboat and out to the front external viewing area.
The boat is fitted with fully accessible WC suitable for wheelchair users.
To reduce our carbon footprint and provide sustainable trips into the future Hargreaves II is powered by two 48 volt 8kw electric motors with continual charging from twelve 160 watt solar panels wired in series to give a maximum working voltage of 80.8 volts. Total watts 1920 rated at 23.7amps. Backed up by a shore line connection for overnight charging if required. The twenty four 2 volt lead carbon batteries are positioned under the cabin floor.
A bespoke boat monitoring system, with integrated Wi-Fi for remote monitoring and data logging is fitted along with full 24 hour CCTV system for security.
The interior is finished to a high specification with double glazed, low profile windows and Magic Screen roller blinds. Heating is by modern clay core 240 volt storage radiators with thermostatic controls and remote operation. Low voltage LED downlights throughout with under gunwale lighting for enhanced effects. Solid American White Oak mouldings and trims. Mobile seating for 12 passengers via stackable, conference style, upholstered chairs. 6 x wall mounted drop leaf tables with hardwearing laminate tops. The galley is fitted with Howdens Greenwich kitchen units to a superior specification .
The volunteers have now completed their training on Hargreaves II and will be ready to welcome our passengers aboard from 21st June 2021 (Subject to existing restrictions being lifted).
