The build on our brand new, all electric narrowboat is well underway with the steelwork now completed by Alexander Boats. Next stage is initial paintwork followed by transport to Ortomarine for fitting out and final painting.
The new 64ft narrowboat has been carefully designed to be eco-friendly with an all electric drivetrain provided by twin 48v motors with solar and external battery charging facilities. Heating will be electric and so no fossil fuels will be onboard at all.
The passenger experience has been considered at every stage of the design and a hydraulic passenger lift inside the rear cabin will provide excellent wheelchair and limited mobility access. A disabled access WC, extra large windows to allow viewing whilst seated, fully fitted galley and a level floor from cabin to covered bow outdoor viewing area will complete the amenities for passengers.
The new narrowboat should be fully operational by early April 2021 when we can once again provide day trips for the local community.
The funding of this new narrowboat has been made possible by grants, received from various national organisations, together with a significant award from The National Lottery Community Fund.
